ENGLISH ORGANIC CHEMIST KNOWN FOR HIS WORK ON THE DEGRADATION OF NATURALLY OCCURRING ORGANIC COMPOUNDS WAS THE ELDEST SON OF SIR WILLIAM HENRY PERKIN THE FOUNDER OF THE ANILINE DYE INDUSTRY
WILLIAM HENRY PERKIN JR. (1860-1929) SIGNED QUOTE, “W. H. Perkin, Waynflete Prof. of Chemistry, Oxford, Dec. 23, 1922”, on a card 4.5 x 3, by the English organic chemist known for his groundbreaking research work on the degradation of naturally occurring organic compounds. This work led to the synthesis of many terpenes and members of the camphor group; and also to the investigation of various alkaloids and natural dyes. He was Waynflete Professor of Chemistry at Oxford University. Together with his brother-in-law Professor Frederick Kipping, he wrote textbooks on practical chemistry, inorganic and organic chemistry. His handwritten quote, in full: “Each home contains a hell or heaven/There is no third place in it”. The card is in fine condition, with minor age toning.
