HE WAS A MAJOR INDUSTRIALIST IN HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING, MILITARY ARTILLERY, AND ELECTRICITY GENERATION. HE INVENTED AND MANUFACTURED HYDRAULIC CRANES AND OTHER HYDRAULIC EQUIPMENT AND SOON BRANCHED OUT INTO BRIDGE BUILDING. HE ALSO MANUFACTURED MILITARY ARTILLERY, INCLUDING NAVAL GUNS FOR WARSHIPS THAT HE SOLD TO THE GOVERNMENT AND TO FOREIGN POWERS.
WILLIAM GEORGE ARMSTRONG, 1ST BARON ARMSTRONG (1810-1900) SIGNED CARD, “Armstrong”, on a card 2.25 x 1.5, by the English engineer and industrialist who founded Armstrong Whitworth manufacturing and who was also an eminent scientist, inventor, and philanthropist. He also designed and manufactured a lighter and more mobile field-gun, with greater range and accuracy, which was declared to be superior to all its rivals, and surrendered the patent for the gun to the British government. He was one of the United Kingdoms greatest engineers. The card is in fine condition, with minor age toning.
