SIR WILLIAM BOYD DAWKINS (1837-1929) HANDWRITTEN LETTER SIGNED, “W. Boyd Dawkins”, on a card 4.25 x 3.5, 22 Sept. 1920, with handwritten return address: “Fallowfield House, Fallowfield, Manchester”, to Ashley T. Cole Esq., with a two word note of encouragement “Peg away”, by the British geologist and archaeologist who was a member of the geological survey of Great Britain, Curator of the Manchester Museum, and professor of geology at Owens College, Manchester. His archaeological cave excavations led to his discovery of the first evidence for use by Paleolithic man (Caves of the Mendip Hills). He published many books and papers including Cave Hunting (1874) and Our Earliest Ancestor in Great Britain (1879). The card is in fine condition, with minor age toning.
