Description

WILLIAM BACON STEVENS SIGNED SLIP, "The Friend, Respectfully Yours, Wm Bacon Stevens", 3 x 1, by the Episcopal Bishop of Pennsylvania in 1865, medical doctor, historian, and author. In fine condition, with tape on right side and adhesive remnants on the reverse with no show through.

William Bacon Stevens (1815-1887) practiced medicine in Savannah, GA before studying for his priesthood of the Episcopal Church. He also served as state historian of Georgia. He was ordained in 1843 and became a priest the next year, soon after teaching moral philosophy at the University of Georgia. Several years later, he received his Doctor of Divinity degree and was elected the assistant bishop of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, finally being promoted to Bishop of Pennsylvania in 1865.
