SIR WILLIAM HUGGINS (1824-1910) SIGNED SCIENCE QUOTE, “William Huggins”, on a card 5 x 3, 10 June 1904, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, London S. W. [his home & private observatory] by the English astronomer best known for his work in astronomical spectroscopy together with his wife Margaret Lindsay Huggins. They carried out extensive observations of the spectral emission lines and absorption lines of various celestial objects: They are used to identify the atomic and molecular components of stars and planets. Huggins was the first to adopt dry plate photography in imaging astronomical objects. He was President of the Royal Astronomical Society (1876-78). The rare handwritten science quote, in full: “The open eye of Science sees in all Nature a vision of ineffable beauty and mystery.” In fine condition, with minor age toning.
