ROSA RAISA SIGNED PHOTO, "Rosa Raisa", of her in costume, AND HANDWRITTEN LETTER SIGNED ON REVERSE, "Sincerely Yours, Rosa Raisa, Chicago 16-5-1947", 3.75 x 5.5, postcard photo, of Polish-born and Italian trained operatic soprano. The handwritten letter in part: "Dear...I received your very kind letter...I am sorry I cannot send you a little picture also of Norma [referring to her role in Bellini's opera], of which I have no more. Please accept my kindest regards and all good wishes...." An amazing Rosa Raisa item signed twice, including her signature on the handwritten letter. One small crease to lower right side and light silvering, otherwise in fine condition.
Rosa Raisa (1893-1963) her North American debut was in 1913 with Campanini's Chicago-Philadelphia Opera Company in Baltimore. Her London debut followed in 1914 at Covent Garden in Aida with Enrico Caruso. La Scala and other major opera houses soon followed. 1933 is the last year Raisa performed a reasonably full opera schedule. Afterwards she and her husband, Italian baritone Giacomo Ramini (1888-1952) opened a voice/opera school together. They also sang hundreds of concerts together.
