DIEGO RIVERA (1886-1957) HAND-SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH OF HIS MURAL DEPICTING MEXICAN REVOLUTION SCENE, “Diego Rivera, 1934”,  by the prominent Mexican painter whose large frescoes helped establish the mural movement in Mexican and international art. In the 1930’s he accepted commissions in San Francisco; attended an exhibition of his work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City; signed this rare photograph; completed a major commission of 27 fresco panels, entitled Detroit Industry, at the Detroit Institute of Art, which was partly paid for by Henry Ford’s son; and completed his controversial mural, Man at the Crossroads, for John D. Rockefeller, Jr., for the Rockefeller Center in New York City, which was later removed because it depicted a portrait of Vladimir Lenin, former leader of the Soviet Union and had Marist pro-worker content. When Rivera refused to remove Lenin from the painting he was asked to leave the U.S. Years later he would be invited back to paint a 10-panel mural for the Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco. The photograph is in fine condition, with a single crease in lower left corner.
