HE WAS A BRITISH SCHOLAR IN THE STUDY OF CLASSICAL GREEK AND LATIN LITERATURE, THE RELATED LANGUAGES, AND ALSO INCLUDES GRECO-ROMAN PHILOSOPHY, HISTORY ARCHAEOLOGY, ART MYTHOLOGY, AND SOCIETY.
SIR RICHARD CLAVERHOUSE JEBB (1841-1905) SIGNED CARD, “R. C. Jebb”, on a card 4 x 2, by the British classical scholar who was a professor of Greek at Cambridge and was a member of Parliament for Cambridge. He was an unsurpassed translator from and into classical languages. He was a prolific author/translator and published many works, including History of Greek Literature, Homer (Introductions to the Iliad and Odyssey), translations of seven of Sophocles plays, The Growth and Influence of Classical Greek Poetry (1893), The Characters of Theophrastus (1870), Modern Greece (1901), and a translation of the Rhetoric of Aristotle (published posthumously). His handwritten quote, in full: “Union is strength.” The card is in fine condition, with minor age toning.
