PIERRE G. T. BEAUREGARD GAVE THE ORDER FOR FIRING ON FORT SUMTER AND BEGAN THE UNITED STATES CIVIL WAR
PIERRE G. T. BEAUREGARD (1818-93) SIGNED CHECK, “G. T. Beauregard”, 8.5 x 2.75, New Orleans, May 11th, 1880, one-cent Internal Revenue stamp affixed in upper right corner, check N0. 39, drawn on the Mutual National Bank, payable to “Bearer”, in the amount of $75, filled out and signed by the former Confederate Brigadier General, who on April 2, 1861 gave the order for firing on Fort Sumter, beginning the U. S. Civil War. The check is in fine condition, with the cancellation stamp slightly touching the top of his name, and one small paper loss from the cancellation that does not affect any of the writing
