PEI & PARTNERS letterhead, January 15, 1973, letter to Robert Conrad and Joel Hamett, presidents of the City Club of New York, by the Chinese-American architect noted for his large elegantly designed urban buildings and complexes, letter in full: “As you know, I have been abroad and have returned to New York just recently. I wish to thank you and The City Club of New York for inviting me to attend your 80th Anniversary Dinner on the 7th of March and to accept a “New York Award.” It will be a pleasure for me to join you, the distinguished co-chairmen and the other award recipients on that evening.” The gala dinner was held at the New York Hilton and was attended by Mayor John Lindsay and former mayor Robert F. Wagner and I. M. Pei received the “For New York” award which was given to a small group of citizens who dedicated themselves to bettering the city. In fine condition.
