Paul A. Samuelson (1915-2009) was awarded the 1970 Nobel Prize for Economics for raising the level of scientific analysis in economic theory. Samuelson taught Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1940 until retiring in 1986. His book, Economics: An Introductory Analysis, is the most successful college textbook of all time.
