PARKE GODWIN SIGNED SLIP, "Your Obdt. Servant, Parke Godwin", 3 x 1.25, American journalist, abolitionist, supporter of Fourierism, edited the posthumous works of his father-in-law, William Cullen Bryant, wrote a biography of Bryant, and was the editor of the New York Evening Post. In fine condition, with age toning and some small stains.
FOURIERISM: It was only appropriate that Albert Brisbane, the “first apostle” of American Fourierism, recruited eleven others to spread the new gospel. The chief proponents of the Fourierist doctrine of “Association” included four New Yorkers: Albert Brisbane, Horace Greeley, Osborne Macdaniel, and Parke Godwin (he wrote a book which became an authority on the movement) and eight men associated with Brook Farm in Massachusetts.
