IN THIS CIVIL WAR DATED LETTER WE HAVE MAJOR GENERAL EDWIN D. MORGAN, WHO COMMANDED THE MILITARIES DEPARTMENT OF NEW YORK, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME SERVING AS THE 21ST GOVERNOR OF THE STATE, ORDERING ARTILLERY WHEEL HARNESSES AND OTHER SUPPLIES DELIVERED TO THE STATE ARSENAL IN NEW YORK CITY.
EDWIN DENISON MORGAN (1811-1883) CIVIL WAR DATED LETTER SIGNED, “E. O. Morgan”, 7.75 x 9.75, Sept 29, 1862 , on State of New York Executive Department letterhead, to Colonel Wm G. Welch, Assistant Com. Gen., by the Union Army general during the American Civil Was, who at the same time served as the 21st Governor of New York. He was one of the founders of the Republican Party and served a long term as Chairman of the Republican National Committee. In this letter he discusses ordering “… 124 sets Artillery Wheel Harnesses” [used on artillery horses] and other supplies “delivered at the State Arsenal in New York City….” The letter is in fine condition, with usual letter folds and minor age toning.
