$9,700.00

Description

EXTREMELY RARE GANDHI SIGNATURE, PSA/DNA FULL LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY

A testament to the revolutionary power of nonviolence, Gandhi’s approach directly influenced Martin Luther King, Jr., who argued that the Gandhian philosophy was the only morally and practically sound method open to oppressed people in their struggle for freedom

Mahatma Gandhi, byname of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869 - 1948) Extremely Rare Hand-Signed Slip, "M. K. Gandhi", 1.25 x 2 cut from a letter, by the Indian lawyer, politician, social activist, and writer who became the leader of the nationalist movement against the British rule of India. As such, he came to be considered the father of his country. Gandhi is internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest (satyagraha) to achieve political and social progress and in turn inspire movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

In the eyes of millions of his fellow Indians, Gandhi was the Mahatma (“Great Soul”). The unthinking adoration of the huge crowds that gathered to see him all along the route of his tours made them a severe ordeal; he could hardly work during the day or rest at night. “The woes of the Mahatmas,” he wrote, “are known only to the Mahatmas.”  Gandhi protested against racism in South Africa and colonial rule in India using nonviolent resistance.  His fame spread worldwide during his lifetime and only increased after his death. The name Mahatma Gandhi is now one of the most universally recognized on earth and is an extreme rarity in a hand-signed autograph. In fine condition, with minor age toning and three words written on the back with no show through.
