MAXENE ANDREWS HANDWRITES A LONG PERSONAL LETTER ABOUT BECOMING A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN, HER SINGING CAREER, HER RECENT ILLNESS, AND THE DEATH OF HER PET DOG
Andrews (1916-95) Handwritten Letter Signed, "God Bless, Maxene", 7 pages, on her personal "Maxene Andrews" letterhead, 10/10/83, by the U.S. singer and entertainer who formed, with her two sisters, Patty and LaVerne, the Andrews Sisters, whose blended harmonies and energetic style made them favorites of audiences. In part: "...You ask for comment on what makes me happy - A few years ago I found the Lord - I became a Born Again Christian - Oh I always believed in God and Christ, but never gave a thought to dedicating my life top Jesus...never praising Him for all the wonderous gifts of beauty, forgiveness, sacrafice (sic) and the great love He gave to us...When I found Him, truly, my life started to change...when I had my heart attack last year that was the biggest change. I knew then that I was in His will. He gave me a second chance to finish whatever He ha set out there for me to do. A big blessing has been music. Music has been my life, my joy, my everything. I started singing before I was four years old and have been at it ever since - Singing has been a great fulfillment...knowing the happyness (sic) thru music I've been able to give to people...I have not always been an 'Up' person. My serious nature has always been strong in me but the Lord has been teaching me how to deal with it...It's harder to look for a day of sunshine while walking under a dark cloud...I do hope I haven't prattled on - My heart is very sad as I write this. Today I had to say goodbye to a pet I've had for almost fourteen years. He and his sister brought such laughter and joy in those years...but then in 'doggin' heaven free from earthly pain they can romp and play and be young again." This wonderful content, handwritten and signed letter is in fine condition.
