MANTON MARBLE - AUTOGRAPHED SLIP SIGNED, "Yours truly, Manton Marble", 4.5 x .7, by the owner and editor of the New York World (1860-76). In 1864, the World was charged with fraud after it published communications from President Abraham Lincoln that turned out to be forged. Lincoln arrested Marble and placed the World under military guard. Marble, and the World, was allowed to resume publication three days later. He was strongly against Emancipation of Blacks. He became president of the Manhattan Club in 1888 (a New York City social club founded in 1865 and dissolved in 1979). In fine condition, with age toning.
