Description

LEOPOLD VICTOR DELISLE (1826-1910) SIGNED SLIP, “L. Delisle, Conference du Music Conde”, on a slip 2.75 x 1, by the French bibliophile and historian who was an experienced paleographer: the study of historic writing systems and the deciphering and dating of historical manuscripts, including the analysis of historic handwriting…concerned with the forms and processes of writing; not the textual content of documents…including the practice of deciphering, reading, and dating of manuscripts, and the cultural context of writing…including the method with which writing and books were produced, and the history of scriptoria. He was the head Administrator of the Bibliotheque nationale de France (the national library of France) from 1874-1906. After his retirement he brought out a two volume catalogue and description of the printed books and manuscripts in the Musee Conde at Chantilly that had been left to the French Institute. He signed this slip with a notation of a conference regarding the Musee Conde. He was a prolific author of many valuable official reports, catalogues, and a great number of memoirs and monographs on points connected with paleography and the study of history and archaeology. The slip is in fine condition and is attached to an acid –free card.
