Lech Walesa Signed Lecture Program, "L. Walesa", 8.5 x 11, lecture program for a lecture given by Walesa at Mount Union College, Alliance, OH, 1998, as part of their Schooler Lecture Series, by the shipyard electrician by trade, he became the leader of Solidarity, and led a successful pro-democratic effort which in 1989 ended the communist rule in Poland and ushered in the end of the Cold War. Walesa was awarded the 1983 Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution "to insure the workers' right to establish their own organizations." In the 1988 labor unrest, he negotiated with the government, resulting in an April 1989 accord which offered a broad range of political and economic reforms including free elections. In the June 1989 parliamentary elections, Walesa was elected President of Poland. He served from 1990 to 1995.
