JOHN JAMES AUDUBON (SIGNED CARD, “John J. Audubon”, 5 x 1.25, by the American naturalist, ornithologist, and painter, who combined his interests in both art and ornithology into a plan to complete pictorial record of all the bird species of North America. He was notable for his extensive studies documenting all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. His major work, a color-plate book entitled The Birds of America (1827-39), is considered one of the finest ornithological works every completed. He is the namesake of the National Audubon Society.
