JOHN GLENN SIGNED CARD INSCRIBED WITH RANK AND MERCURY ASTRONAUT, 1962, "Best regards to Margarita Park - John H. Glenn, Jr., Lt. Col. USMC, Mercury Astronaut", on 3 x 5 card, in black ink, sent to a fan just weeks after his historic mission. Comes with the mailing envelope postmarked May 11, 1962, and the 4 cent stamp is cancelled with "Home Of Astronaut Glenn". Both items in fine condition.
Colonel John Herschel Glenn Jr. (1921-2016) was a United States Marine Corps aviator, engineer, astronaut, businessman, and politician. He was the first American to orbit the Earth, circling it three times in 1962: He was one of the Mercury seven, military test pilots selected in 1959 by NASA as the nation's first astronauts. On February 20, 1962, Glenn flew the Friendship 7 mission, becoming the first American to orbit the Earth, and the fifth person and third American in space. Following his retirement from NASA, he served from 1974 to 1999 as a Democratic United States Senator from Ohio.
