John George Diefenbaker (1895-1979) Signed Office of the Prime Minister Card, "John Diefenbaker", 5 x 4, in blue ink as Prime Minister, with embossed "Canada Cabinet Du Premier Ministre, Office of the Prime Minister" seal at top, by the 13th prime minister of Canada from 1957 to 1963. Diefenbaker appointed the first female minister in Canadian history to his Cabinet, as well as the first aboriginal member of the Senate. During his six years as Prime Minister, his government obtained passage of the Canadian Bill of Rights and granted the vote to the First Nations and Inuit peoples. In foreign policy, his stance against apartheid helped secure the departure of South Africa from the Commonwealth of Nations. Comes with a glossy 4 x 5, b/w, photograph of the Prime Minister and the transmittal letter on "Office of the Prime Minister" letterhead, Ottawa, dated January 10, 1962. All three items are in fine condition.
