Griswold, Troy, N.Y.", 5.25 x 2.5, large ink signature of the builder of the Civil War iron-clad USS Monitor, U.S. Civil War Congressman, steel tycoon who founded the Albany and Rensselaer Iron and Steel Works, located in Troy., Mayor of Troy, N.Y., owner of the Bessemer process steel patent. In fine condition. 

The USS Monitor was the first ironclad warship commissioned by the Union Navy and is most famous for her central role in the Battle of Hampton Roads on 9 March 1862. This was the first-ever battle fought between two armored warships and marked a turning point in naval warfare.
