$925.00

Description

JAMIE WYETH SIGNED FULL-COLOR REPRODUCTION, "Jamie Wyeth", 8.5 x 6.5, of his painting "Wolf Dog" 1976, beautifully double-matted in suede, with brass metal edging, to an overall size of 13 x 11. In fine condition.

James Browning Wyeth (born July 6, 1946) is a contemporary American realist painter, son of Andrew Wyeth, and grandson of N.C. Wyeth. His works include landscapes, portraits and coastal creatures. Most of his paintings are done at his Tenants Harbor house on Southern Island in Maine

In Wyeth’s 1976 “Wolf Dog”, in which a wolf/dog, with piercing silver/grey eyes, is looking straight at the viewer, we get a primal sense of territorial mastery. The incredible realism of the wolf’s fur is impressive, but the specificity of its rendering adds an odd tension between a moment in time and the extreme focus that went into its production effort.

One of the most remarkably odd aspects of Wyeth’s paintings is the role that animals play in his work. Wyeth knows the animals that he paints and the work grows out of their kinship. When painting animals Wyeth changes the textures of the paint to reflect fur, wool, or feathers. He might be the famous son of a famous family, but Jamie Wyeth is one of America’s greatest painters.
