JAMES MURDOCH GEIKIE (1839-1915) SIGNED QUOTE, “James Geikie”, on a card 4.25 x 2.75, by the Scottish geologist and professor of geology and minerology at Edinburgh University (1882-1914) who was an authority on Pleistocene geology and how earths surface formed by glacial action. His views are embodied in his chief work, The Great Ice Age and its Relation to the Antiquity of Man (1874). He published several other works including the standard textbook, Outlines of Geology (1886). He was President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (1913-15). His handwritten quote is by Theophrastus, in full: “Nothing is more precious than time, and those who misspend it are the greatest of all prodigals”. The card is in fine condition, with minor age toning.
