JAMES G. FAIR SIGNED, "James G. Fair, Nevada", on cream colored 8 x 2.5 slip, by American financier, mine owner and politician who was a silver king in the famous Nevada Comstock Lode. Light age toning, otherwise in fine condition.
James G. Fair (1831-1894) was Irish born and went to California as a "forty-niner" at the age of 17. Fair, who spent the next 11 years mining, later moved to Virginia City, Nevada where he formed a partnership in 1867 that purchased control of the Bonanza and other mines, the yield of gold and silver while under his ownership was estimated at $200 million. Fair was a Democratic U.S. Senator from Nevada from 1881-1887
