Isaac Asimov (1920-92) Signed "The Kingdom of the Sun" Typescript, “Isaac Asimov", 8.5 x 11, 2 pgs., large signature in blue ballpoint, by the American writer and professor of biochemistry at Boston University. He was known for his works of science fiction and popular science. Asimov was a prolific writer who wrote or edited more than 500 books. The typescript is excerpted from Asimov's 1960 book, "The Kingdom of the Sun", in which Asimov traces man's long pursuit of knowledge of the sun and the solar system it dominate. This was Asimov's first foray into the history of astronomy (at lease, at book length) and in it he outlined the advancing knowledge of the solar system from ancient times through the 1950's. In Part: "In these days of rockets and satellites, we all know that the Earth is a planet...If we look at the universe about us, and trust our eyes, what we see is nothing like what we are told is so...There are two skies we can see; one by day and one by night...The sun move steadily in the sky...if we accepted what our eyes told us we would say that the sun traveled about the Earth...For many thousands of years, that is exactly what civilized men did say...." In fine condition, with a paper clip impression on top of each page.
