Isaac Asimov (1920-92) Signed "Animals of the Bible" Typescript, "Isaac Asimov", 8.5 x 11, 2 pgs., large signature in blue ballpoint, by the American writer and professor of biochemistry at Boston University. He was known for his works of science fiction and popular science. Asimov was a prolific writer who wrote or edited more than 500 books. The typescript is excerpted from Asimov's 1978, non-fiction, science book for children, "Animals of the Bible" which discusses the origins and folklore of forty-five animals mentioned in the Bible. In part: "Hippopotamus...in the Bible...it is called a behemoth, which is a biblical word meaning 'great beast'...Foxes...Matthew writes of an observation by Jesus...Leopard...Jeremiah...asked ironically whether the leopard could change its spots...Isaiah predicted, however, that someday, when evil is finally defeated, the leopard shall lie down with the kid...Camel...Two kinds of camels were to be found in the lands of the Bible...In Genesis, Abraham's servant rode a camel to Mesopotamia...Swine...In Leviticus, God warns Moses that the pig is unclean and must not be eaten or even touched...." An interesting aside is that he is also known for being a great atheist and is well-known for some stinging remarks made about the Bible/believers and his atheistic quotes are favorites of his like-minded fellows. In fine condition with a paper clip impression to the top of each page.
