Description
SIR HENRY ENFIELD ROSCOE (1833-1915) SIGNED CARD, “With kind regards, I am yours ever, Henry E. Roscoe, April 5. 05”, on a card 4.25 x 2.5, by the British chemist noted for early work on vanadium, photochemical studies, and his assistance in creating Oxo (food), in its earlier liquid form. In 1857 he was appointed to the chair of chemistry at Owens College, Manchester and remained until 1886. He was the founder and first president of the Society of Chemical Industry and from 1896-1902 was vice-chancellor of the University of London. He is also noted for his scientific work with Robert Bunsen, in which they laid the foundations of comparative photochemistry, and in 1864 they carried out what is reputed to be the first flashlight photography. He published many books on chemistry which had a wide circulation and well as foreign editions and also wrote his autobiography, The Life and Experiences of Sir Henry Enfield Roscoe. The card is in fine condition, with minor age toning.
