SWEDISH NOBEL LAUREATE HANDWRITES A LINE THAT SUMMARIZES WHY HE HAS DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH: “HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO KNOW THE CAUSES OF THINGS”
HANS VON EULER-CHELPIN (1873-1964) SIGNED QUOTE, “H. v. Euler”, on a card 4.25 x 3.5, by the Swedish biochemist who won the 1929 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Arthur Harden for their investigations on the fermentation of sugars and enzymes. He was a professor of general and organic chemistry at Stockholm University and a prolific author of scientific books and monographs on a variety of subjects. His handwritten Latin quote, transcribed in full: “Happy to be able to know the causes of things”. The card is in fine condition, with minor age toning, and the place/date, “Stockholm, 3.3.1931” in another hand lower left.
