VANDENHOFF (1820-1885) SIGNED SLIP, "Faithfully Yours, Geo. Vandenhoff", 4 x 1.5, by the English actor of the family of actors (his father and sister were also actors), elocutionist who performed in Britain and the U.S, and lawyer known for his skills in public speaking. His debut performance in the U.S. was in the role of Hamlet, in 1842. He also authored books about performing and reading in public including "Leaves from an Actor's Note-Book", "A Plain System of Elocution", "The Art of Elocution", and "The Art of Reading Aloud". By 1858 he had left acting and continued as an attorney. But in 1866 he had an opportunity to combine both his public speaking talents and the law when he was asked by author Charles Reade to read a large portion of his novel Griffith Gaunt to the jury in a defamation trial. In fine condition, with minor age toning.
