George Horace Gallup (1901-84) Signed Photo, "George Gallup", 8 x 10, b/w, close up portrait, of the American public opinion pioneer of survey sampling techniques and inventor of the Gallup poll, a successful statistical method of survey sampling for measuring public opinion. He was a former journalism professor at Drake, Northwestern and Columbia Universities, Gallup founded and became Director of the American Institute for Public Opinion in 1935; a British Institute followed in 1936. A pioneer in the use of statistical methods to measure the interests of readers, Gallup extended his research to include radio audiences, establishing the Audience Research Institute in 1939. Although he won numerous awards and wrote several books, he is probably best known for the Gallup Poll, which he developed to survey public opinion on politics. This rare signed photo is in fine condition, with very minor surface blemish at top left.
