Mark Wayne Clark (1896-1984) Signed WWII, War-Dated, Italy Surrender, First Day Cover, "Mark W. Clark", 6.5 x 3.5, postmarked "VICTORY SEP 3 1943, VT3" with a 2 cent "Nations United For Victory" stamp, by the United States Army officer who saw service during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. He was the youngest four-star general in the United States Army during World War II. On this rare postal cover above the images of Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo, is printed: "Today, Sep. 3, 1943, on the fourth anniversary of the Declaration of War by England against Germany, England invaded Italy. Today, Italy secretly surrendered unconditionally to the United Nations. This cover was posted on the corresponding minute of the actual invasion of the European continent." Bold, dark blue ink signature. Stain on left front that actually does not detract from the image, otherwise in fine condition.
