George Henry Gordon (1823-86) Signed Slip, "Geo. H. Gordon, Brig. Genl.", 5 x 2, was an American lawyer and a Union general in the American Civil War. He was a West Point graduate, served in Mexican-American War (recognized for gallantry at Cerro Gordo), during the Civil War he fought at Antietam and Gettysburg. After the war, Gordon practiced law in Boston. He was one of the founders of the Military Historical Society of Massachusetts. He published a number of books on Civil War history. This large, bold, ink signature and rank is in fine condition, with minor age toning.
