General Charles Henry Howard (1838-1908) Signed Slip, 5.5 x 2, by officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War, and a newspaper editor and publisher. He saw a lot of action at First Battle of Bull Run, Battle of Seven Pines (where he was wounded), Battle of Antietam, Battle of Fredericksburg (where he was wounded again). He was the younger brother of Union general Oliver O. Howard and served with him at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Battles for Chattanooga. Howard also commanded the United States Colored Troops training camp at Beaufort, South Carolina; as well as the 128th U.S.C.T. Infantry Regiment. In fine condition, with some ink smear to his rank.
