FREDERIC AUGUSTE BARTHOLDI (1834-1904) SIGNED RARE STATUE OF LIBERTY SOUVENIR CARD, “A. Bartholdi”, 5.5 x 3, by the French sculptor and painter who is best known for designing Liberty Enlightening the World, commonly known as the Statue of Liberty. The image on this rare card shows the majestic Statue of Liberty silhouetted by the slanting rays of an auspicious sunrise. In 1871, he made a trip to the United States, where he pitched the idea of a massive statue gifted from the French to the Americans in honor of the centennial of American independence. The card is dated 1894 on the reverse in another hand. The card is authenticated and certified by PSA/DNA. This boldly signed card is in fine condition, with a small identification label attached in upper right corner.
