$125.00

Description

Fiorello Henry La Guardia (1882-1947) Typed Letter Signed, "F. LaGuardia", 8.25 x 10.5, on "City of New York, Office of the Mayor" letterhead, September 30, 1943, written to John S. Burke, B. Altman & Company, New York City (he was president of the business from 1931-1962), a criptic message "Yours of the 29th. Not now, please. Let us get together next week and talk it over. I will tell you why.", by the American politician. He is best known for being the 99th Mayor of New York City for three terms from 1934 to 1945 as a pro-New Deal liberal progressive Republican. Previously he had been elected to Congress in 1916 and 1918, and again from 1922 through 1930.  LaGuardia became nationally known for his sweeping reforms of city government, creation of Depression-Era jobs and ambitious projects, which included clearing slums and building roads, housing, schools, parks and playgrounds and the city's first airport, which was named in his honor. In fine condition, with usual mailing folds.
