FERNANDO WOOD SIGNED CUT SIGNATURE, "Fernando Wood, New York", 5.25 x 2, large ink signature by the three-term Mayor of New York City, Civil War Congressman, Tammany Hall leader, and shipping merchant. In fine condition. 

Fernando Wood (1812-1881) was an American politician of the Democratic Party and the 3-term Mayor of New York City (1855-58, 1861 and 1862).  He also served multiple terms as a United States Representative, including during the U.S. Civil War (1863-65), one of the leaders of the Tammany Hall political machine, opposed the 13th Amendment, supported the Confederate States, and he strongly suggested that New York City secede from the Union, and declare itself a free city, in order to continue the profitable cotton trade which the Mayor needed to support the New York City patronage system.
