Description

A FEW MONTHS AFTER BECOMING PRESIDENT, DWIGHT EISENHOWER, WRITES HIS OLDER BROTHER, EDGAR N. EISENHOWER, ABOUT A CONTROVERSY OF ESTABLISHING A NAVAL ACOUSTIC RANGE IN AN AREA WHERE EDGAR LIVES

DWIGHT DAVID EISNEHOWER (1890-1969) TYPED WHITE HOUSE LETTER SIGNED AS PRESIDENT, “DE”, 2 pgs., 8 x 10.5, May 7, 1953, written to his older brother, American lawyer and businessman, Edgar N. Eisenhower (1889-1971) at his law firm in Tacoma, Washington, discussing a controversy over a Navy Acoustic Range being proposed in the Pacific Northwest where Edgar lives, by the 34th President of the United States (1953-61) who also served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe during WWII. The two page letter, in part: “…Carr Inlet is the only place available where the Navy can establish its very necessary Range…As you no doubt know, a conference was held by the Navy with private groups and certain public officials from the State of Washington and the City of Tacoma…It is always disappointing when one of these public projects has to cut across the interests…of private citizens…I really believe the Navy will do its best to minimize interference.” Comes with an 8 x 10 color photo. Both items are in fine condition, with two file holes and staple holes at the top of the letter.
