Ann Clare Boothe Luce (1903-87) Signed Phillipe Halsman Photo, "Clare Luce", 4.5 x 7, b/w, close up portrait, American author, politician, U.S. Ambassador and public conservative figure who strongly supported women's rights. She was the first American woman appointed to a major ambassadorial post abroad. A versatile author, she is best known for her 1936 hit play The Women, which had an all-female cast. Comes with the original mailing envelope with the return address: "Office of the Ambassador/American Embassy ROMA", with two Italian stamps. Phillipe Halsman's backstamp is on the reverse of the photo. In fine condition, with a hard to see paperclip impression and crease lower left.
