HOLLYWOOD MOGULS PERSONAL SIGNED CHECK WITH TIES TO HIS FAMOUS PARADISE RANCH WHERE MANY OF THE SCRIPTS AND THE MUSICAL SCORES FOR HIS FILMS WERE CREATED!
CECIL B. DeMILLE (1881-1959) SIGNED PERSONAL BANK CHECK, "Cecil B. deMille", 8.25 x 3.25, July 30, 1956, the American filmmaker is paying Athol Wiggins $309.22. DeMILLE is considered the founding father of the Hollywood film industry. He made over 70 films distinguished by their epic scale. A pencil note on the back of the check indicates that Athol Wiggins was the Superintendant of DeMille's famous Paradise Ranch in Little Tujunga Canyon. DeMille purchased the property in 1916 and expanded it to 700 acres over several years through additional land purchases. He used it as a retreat for himself and his Hollywood friends, including Yul Brynner, Charles Bickford, Charlton Heston, Charlie Chaplin, Gary Cooper, H. G. Wells, etc. In 1923, DeMille shipped a $25,000 Wurlitzer pipe organ to the ranch so his composer, creating the scores for upcoming films, could work in solitude. Screenwriter Jeannie Macpherson also locked herself up in a cabin for weeks at a time as she wrote and collaborated on 90% of DeMille films. The ranch contains some of Hollywood's greatest treasures, movie set leftovers that have survived the same real-life disasters--fires, floods, and earthquakes--that they have posed for in their creators' biblical epics: "King of Kings" and "The Ten Commandments". This historic piece of old Hollywood is in fine condition with a bold ink signature and also signed on the reverse by his Paradise Ranch Superintendant.
