At the time of this photo, September 1948, Veeck was the owner of the Cleveland Indians which won the World Series that year by defeating the Boston Braves. Also of note is in July of the previous year Veeck signed Larry Doby, the first black player to play in the American League. Veeck was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. Minor edge wrinkles, small tear to irregular right edge, otherwise in fine condition.
William Louis Veeck Jr., (1914-1986) also known as "Sport Shirt", was an American Major League Baseball franchise owner and promoter. Veeck was at various times the owner of the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox.
