Kennedy International Airport, New York City" letterhead, Sept 1, 1977 (the year the mini series, Roots, was first broadcast), a short letter with one great line: "...warm wishes from the family of Kunta Kinte!", the main character in his book, Roots. Why Kunta Kinte is famous: Once known as James Island, Kunta Kinte Island was a holding ground for captured slaves before they were shipped to America. The island is named for its most famous slave, who was later immortalized in the book (and then mini-series) Roots: The Saga of an American Family, by American writer Alex Haley. One letter fold and some age toning, otherwise in fine condition.
