HE WAS THE “FATHER OF PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY”; THE FIRST SCIENTIST TO SPOT AND DOCUMENT THE THEORY OF HUMAN COLONIZATION OF THE AMERICAN CONTINENT FROM EAST ASIA WHICH HAPPENED SOME POINT BETWEEN 15,000 AND 20,000 YEARS AGO; FOUNDER AND FIRST CURATOR OF PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY OF THE U.S. NATIONAL MUSEUM (NOW THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY) AND FOUNDER OF THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY, HERE HANDWRITES THE QUESTION THAT HAS CHALLENGED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR CENTURIES: “…WHAT FORCE IS IT THAT DRIVES YOU EVER ON – …IS IT THE STREAM OF THE UNIVERSAL SPIRIT, OR IS IT THE TIDE TOWARDS HUMANITY’S REAL DAWN?”
ALES HRDLICKA (1869-1943) SIGNED QUOTE, “Ales Hrdlicka, Dec. 11, 1926, Washington, D. C.”, on a card 4.5 x 3.5, by the Czech physical anthropologist known for his studies of Neanderthal man and his theory of migration of American Indians from Asia. He lived in the United States and was the first scientist to spot and document the theory of human colonization of the American continent when Paleolithic hunter-gathers entered North America from the North Asian Mammoth steppe via the Beringia land bridge, which had formed between northeastern Siberia and western Alaska due to lowering of sea levels during the last Glacial Maximum (26,000-19,000 years ago). His extremely moving handwritten quote asks a very important scientific question, in full: “Onward, you human soldiers, onward – What force is it that drives you ever on – Is it the stream of the Universal Spirit, Or is it the tide towards Humanity’s real Dawn?” The card is in excellent condition and would be a treasured keepsake in anyone’s collection.
