Rear Admiral Silas Horton Stringham (1798-1876) Signed Slip, "Navy Yard Boston, Feb 3rd, 1864. I am respectfully Your Obt. Serv., S. H. Stringham, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy.", 5 x 3, was an officer of the United States Navy who saw active service during the War of 1812, the Second Barbary War, and the Mexican–American War (bombardment of Vera Cruz), and who commanded the Atlantic Blockading Squadron at the beginning of the American Civil War. He was Commandant of the Boston Navy Yard, 1864–66, and as Port admiral of New York in 1870. In fine condition, with minor age toning and mounting remnants on the reverse with no show through.
