HOW DO YOU KNOW IT'S REAL?
The one question I had when I bought my first autograph and the number one question I've heard frequently over the last 25 years is "How do you know it's real?" First of all you need an extensive library of reference material, years of practical experience of handling thousands of documents, and some other tools used in the autograph trade.
My approach has always been to assume that an item is not real and then I work backwards, step by step, through multiple reference books, using a working knowledge of paper, ink, printing techniques, specific facts known about a personalities signing habits, and a centuries accumulation of files of exemplars to use for comparison. First of all when I purchase an item for our inventory I want to make sure it's real and more importantly when I sell an item I'm also selling my business reputation. You can be sure that any item you purchase from History Makers Autographs comes with my personal signature and my guarantee of authenticity: "Every autograph we sell is unconditionally guaranteed authentic without time limit to the original purchaser."
